My friend Tiamat wonders how I can be a little kid with an old man's face. Here's a stab at an answer:
Since the child Tages speaks to the astonished elders of the tribe with a wisdom that belies his years, and their knowledge, this indicates he is as old as the hills, which, of course, as a chthonic (wonderful word! two Greek consonants in a row, which in English = 4!)) being or deity, he is. At the same time he is ageless, and perpetually reborn & renewed, like all things that arise from and return to the earth. So he is perpetually both old & young. And, of course, he is doubly miraculous, being both "born" from the earth, and an ancient spirit in an endlessly newborn body.
If you'd like to know more about the miraculous tale of Tages, read the article at Etruria, Divinities & Demons, by Sin Utnapishtim entitled "Tages, Boy Wonder."
By the way, lest you think of our Etruscan Underworld and its so-called "demons" as a frightful place, take a look at the three lovely girls here -- the two on the far left and the one at far right -- and think again!
I'm going to post an article about Culsu, Vanth and all the other folks on this lovely sarcophagus soon, so be sure to look for it.
Meanwhile, though I'm usually found down in the earth, where I came from, you're welcome to browse my Domus up here, too. As you wander through my house you will discover places that serve as my homebase for certain activities. In the Courtyard I conduct my social activities here at AncientWorlds and at Rome. My Library is for my historical and academic pursuits. Finally, in my Study you will find my game playing scores, statistics and artifacts. Thanks for visiting my upperworld home!
