Biography of Gaius Aurelius Valerius

GaiusAurelius was born in Rome at the end of the republican period of Roman history.His mother was a Aquilia Severa and his father Marcvs Valerius Flaccus.By the age of five his parents realised that their son had developed and was rather scholastic, so they set about with the aid of Aquilia Severa's dowry to give their son a traditional Roman education in oratory, philosphy and law, after he had finished his basic schooling. Family fortune had not been kind to this branch of the Valerii for quite and few generations.

With the aid of his parents Gaius was bent upon restoring the family fortune and redeeming this branch of the familys name in Roman society.As luck would have it Gaius was enterprising and through shrewd investment and political clout was soon able to restore both the family fortune and name to the cursus honorum.

Gaius would become elected to a priesthood and then because of rising family fortune take his place in the senate after serving as a tribune of the plebs.
