Em Hotep - Welcome to AncientWorlds Egypt

My name, Seshat is that of an Egyptian Goddess. Her name is also spelled: Sashet or Sesheta. Regardless of the spelling, it translates to "Female Scribe". As such, she was the goddess of: accounting, architecture, historical records, mathematics, measurement and writing. Her epithets were: "She who is Foremost in the House of Books" and in Late Period, "Lady of Builders"
Often, Seshat is depicted as a woman wearing panther-skin dress - which happens to be the garb of the funerary stm priests. Above her head, in place of a headdress, one finds a seven-pointed star on a standard or a stylized flower. Above this headdress were down-turned horns. In earlier days, they may have been a crescent moon, hinting at a link to the moon, as well as her spouse Thoth. This was also her hieroglyphic symbol.
In later days, the priesthood of Thoth took over in importance. But, in the earlier times, Seshat had her own priestesses and a few priests. To date, however, there is no temple found to be associated with her.
