Acceptus

Welcome to the domus of Valeria Sergius. I am Nubia-born, brought to Rome by the centurian, Antonius Sergius, when Praetorian Prefect Petronius invaded the holy city of Napata during the reign of Caesar Augustus. Antonius took me first as a captive, then made me his concubine, changing my given name from Amun to Valeria. We had several good years together until he perished in the uprising of the Nubians and Kushites. Though at first his captive, I came to respect him as a good man. (Our story can be found in the library.)

I have set up an apothecary where I sell herbs, remedies, medicines (and more than an occasional love potion). I also keep records of the Nubians and other Africans here in Rome, for there are indeed more than a few of us.

I run the caupona next door (just off the courtyard) where many plots and intrigues take place.

So if you have medicinal needs, want a good meal, or just want to talk (or hear court gossip), step through this doorway.

Nubia is located in the area between the first and sixth cataracts of the Nile, belonging partly to Egypt and Sudan, but the bulk is located in Sudan. Also known as the land of Kush, and deemed by some Greeks to be "The land of the Burnt Faces' Nubia was a respected kingdom. The Kingdom of Nubia flourished for 5,000 years, outlasting Rome, Greece, and Egypt. Nubia conquered Egypt in the late 8th century (The 700's) and ruled for almost a hundred years.
