Welcome, welcome! Please come in and sit a bit, talk of great or subtle things, and enjoy fresh olives of every variety and several kinds of wine; my Greek slaves have lamb roasting on a spit daily; whatever your pleasure, just inform my slavegirl house-babe Sabina of your needs.

I am an architect by training, and I daily oversee numerous building projects throughout the city. I've also been made Praefectus of my district -- a thankless job to be sure, though many local women have thanked me personally here at the Estate.

Ahhh... the wonders of being idly rich, replacing the black marble with red, though the Lapis Lazuli to inlay the inscribed text, still draws gasps of delight. My white marble atrium and poet pool, however, will remain pristine. In an adjacent domus I house my culina, triclinium, and praefecture offices; those rooms in this building have given way to cubiculums, of which many a woman has frequented. My Latrinum has several well-trained slaves happy to quote from the latest literary works while you strain.

If you'd like to visit, I live in the very fashionable Collis Caelius district (click Germania Zeppelinia aerialgraph) a block away from the huge Temple of the Divine Claudius:

Of course, all of this is creative writing. I'm not really in Rome, Balbas is not an historical figure, and I'm not allowed by the laws in my country to legally own slave girls.

What Ancient Worlds is all about is history. Some of it is serious, some is camp, some is in between. And if this is your first time here, you might like to take a look at:

Welcome to Ancient Worlds

We have a newspaper, The Acta Diurna

If you've been here awhile and as of yet don't know about article writing, read this post from Sankira Qin.

" plaque courtesy of Sextus Crassus; Collis Caelius image is from AW; oyster graffiti is from Luna Nebet; Background marble is from Absolute Background Textures Archive; Bibliotheca's perspective is from a Albert J Moore painting via GoodArt; Tablinum's & Hortus Frappuccino's frescos are from New Horizon's Ancient Roman Gallery; the abacus hit-counter is from Amazing Counters.
Found this little trinket whilst travelling in the mystical Orient; it seems to have the ability to "know" when you're here.
