Magus's Journals

Mandanos Sargon, known in scholarly circles as Magus, was born in Nicomedia in the province of Bithynia to a Syrian father and a Greek mother. His early schooling took place in his native city where he excelled in all the required disciplines, revealing a pronounced aptitude for mathematics. Further education was pursued with the Stoic Masters in Tarsus where he remained for three years before going on to Alexandria where he specialised in astronomy.

In so doing, Magus confirmed his double ancestral heritage. His father, Darius Sargon, himself a teacher of ancient Near Eastern languages, descends from Mazdaran, First Court Astronomer to the Mesopotamian kings and then to the great Alexander himself when the latter conquered Babylon. His mother, Phaemia, is a direct descendent of the illustrius Hipparchus of Nicaea.

After having worked five years as Chief Cartographer of the Night Skies in Alexandria, he moved to Seleucia Pieria at the invitation of the City Council to set up his own school in the Upper City for the benefit of all Greek-speaking students interested in pursuing the study of astronomy, that loftiest of natural sciences.
