Welcome to my little corner of the universe!
My story:
My mother was, well, I guess you could call her a shaman, though not of the Native American variety. When I was born, she said the goddesses had gifted me to her through pain. She called me Hecate after the dark goddess that most people fear. Hecate, though, is a goddess of change. Because she's seen as the crone, she's associated with death. But death is the greatest portal into the unknown of all, isn't it?
But enough of my namesake.
It didn't take mother long to find that I had a type of gift that is generally misunderstood. I could see inside others--not physically, but into their minds, their emotions. The "gift" caused me to behave badly as a teenager--I learned how to use people for my own benefit. How many millions could I have made off of stupid sheep, ripe for being abused? I found myself in military school, court (and mother) ordered. That's where I found my true calling. When terrorists bombed our unit, I was one of the few who was physically unscathed. But it was for the ones who were hurt worst that my gift became, well, a true gift. Their bodies were so far gone, limbs ripped off, entrails hanging out, bodies potmarked with metal shards. The attack had left their spirits in shock, however. They were holding on, simply because they didn't know what else to do. I helped them find their way, at least those who had no other hope. Others, I held onto and waited with them until their bodies were ready for consciousness. They thought I was an angel, but my superiors knew better.
That's when I began my undercover training. I'm not a journalist, but I play one in the field...
