You are most welcome to the home of Eunice Orestes, a hetaira residing in Athens. My house lies near a pleasant lemontree grove on the hills above the city, where the air is cool and refreshing. Everything in my house is chosen carefully to provide rest, peace and tranquility.  This house belongs to me, though of course, it is owned, in name only, by my late patron's son, since women are not permitted to own property. I never fail to offer up a prayer for him, every day, since his gift has given me my own independence and freedom from worry.  I should be somewhereabouts in my house. If I am not here when you visit, please stay a while and refresh yourself with the finest wines and sweetmeats. My little slave, Hyachinth,will serve you. She is a dear child and will be delighted to entertain you with a song or poetry.

     The benches near the lilly pond are particularly comfortable and you can watch the goldfish swimming in the water. Or you may prefer to sit on the balcony and bask in the sunshine and the cool breezes. You may see my cats, Flora and Pomona, playing in the garden.  If you wish, my harpist will be glad to play something soothing for you. She has learned to play the sweetest tunes.
