My name is Marcus Sulpicius Fulvius. I am a priest at the temple of Mars, and today I will be your guide to the chosen nesting spot of Picus Martius, sacred companion and messenger of the great god Mars.
As we depart the Porta Capena, the road rises along this portion of the Via Appia. This is the clivus Martis and it will take us to Picus’ home in the sacred grove.
