Welcome to Villa Norvegia"Sun from south along with moon put the right arm around the firmament; sun did not know her halls, the stars did not know their places, moon did not know the power which he had."From Voluspå |

Norway is the remotest land on the wide terrestrial orb. It stretches nortward to the uppermost latitudes. Because of its very steep, severe mountains and inclement frost, it is the infertilest of all lands, and it is only suitable for cattle breeding. The droves of cattle graze far away in the wilder- ness.
The Norwegians are brave and strong warriors, not effeminate, because of their severe, meager fare.
(Adam of Bremen, 1075) |

The Normans Are Coming!Little islands out at sea, on the horizon Keep suddenly showing the stripes of red and blue, a hail Of something coming, ships a-sail from over the rim of sea.And in the years to come, it is longships, it is longships, It is the longships coming, out of the polar end of the sea, It is Normannic ships, and men with blond beards, Coming out of the northern end. Today, we heard king Charlemagne scream. A longship, going south, sailing on the edge of the horizone Is leaving a fear and danger Like a great fire. |
 Out of the Germanic Woods
In the Germanic villages There were always stories about Rome Rome was the most beautiful, most powerful city And we decided to ride to Rome out of curiosity.Out of the woods of Germania, we rode Over the mountains of Vindebona, took the road To Aquileia, by the road of Verona, we reached The great city of Rome. In Rome, down the crowded streets We went, saw the races of chariots, Found a home in one of the Lupii roads And sailed out from Ostia in ships. In Minos, in Mycanae in all the cities with lion gates we visited, seeing seeing the world's wonders giving impressions to our hearts. In Londinum, Mallisia, Lutetia In all new cities we travelled through new lands through the Roman empire, impressing greatly our hearts. |
