"Mellom bakkar og berg utmed havet
(Between hills and mountains by the sea)
heve nordmannen fengje sin heim.
(the Norseman has found his home.)
Der han sjølv heve tuftene grave
(Where he himself laid the foundations)
og sett sjølv sine hus oppå deim."

I bid you welcome, friend, to my humble home of Thorstad. I apologize for the poor welcome, but sit down, and enjoy a horn of mead while I order my thralls to prepare a meal for you. While you wait, please feel free to look around and see what my home has to offer.
The area may seem primitive, but I have recently arrived here myself and settled down in this secluded part of Norway. Together with Sote and Kolle I am working hard to finish the houses and prepare the surroundings for the coming seasons.
This place is more of a cabin than a house. It is only small enough to house the five persons living here. On the side of the cabin lies a big pile of timber, and near the forest stands a small shelter made for the horse Svadilfare.
This doesn't seem like the place where a Hvitaskald would live, crammed up in a small cabin together with four thralls, and the rough and wild exterior of your host doesn't look civilized at all. But he obviously knows how to treat guests with the meager resources available, and his presence make you suspect that this is no poor-blooded, honorless peasant.
