Garrett Gaius's Journals

This is the domus of AW's Symposion guest from March 16-22, 2008, Dr. Garrett Fagan.

Professor Garrett G. Fagan has taught at The Pennsylvania State University since 1996.  Born in Dublin, Ireland, he was educated at Trinity College.  He received his Ph.D. from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, and has held teaching positions at McMaster University, York University (Canada), the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Davidson College, and the Pennsylvania State University.  He has also held prestigious fellowships and published numerous articles in educational journals.  But, to AW members who love The Teaching Company courses on ancient history, Dr. Fagan is known as "the" teacher of Roman history, with courses including History of Ancient Rome, Emperors of Rome and Great Battles of the Ancient World.

Prof. Garrett Fagan's recent publications include (ed.) Archaeologcal Fantasies: How Pseudoarchaeology Misrepresents the Past and Misleads the Public (Oxford: Routledge, 2006) and Professor Garrett Fagan and P. Murgatroyed, From Augustus to Nero: An Intermediate Latin Reader (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2006).  He has also published Bathing in Public in the Roman World with the University of Michigan Press.  The book was made a History Book Club main selection.

Welcome, Dr. Fagan!
