guest from March 16-22, 2008, Dr. Garrett Fagan.
Professor Garrett G. Fagan has taught at The Pennsylvania State
University since 1996. Born in Dublin, Ireland,
he was educated at Trinity
College. He received his Ph.D. from McMaster
University, Hamilton, Ontario, and has held teaching positions at McMaster
University, York University (Canada), the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill, Davidson College, and the Pennsylvania State University. He has also held prestigious fellowships and
published numerous articles in educational journals. But, to AW members who love The Teaching
Company courses on ancient history, Dr. Fagan is known as "the"
teacher of Roman history, with courses including History
of Ancient Rome, Emperors
of Rome and Great
Battles of the Ancient World.
Prof. Garrett Fagan's recent publications include (ed.) Archaeologcal Fantasies: How Pseudoarchaeology
Misrepresents the Past and Misleads the Public (Oxford:
Routledge, 2006) and Professor Garrett Fagan and P. Murgatroyed, From Augustus to Nero: An
Intermediate Latin Reader (Cambridge:
Cambridge University Press, 2006). He
has also published Bathing in Public in the Roman World with the University of Michigan Press. The book was made a History Book Club main selection.
