So being young I felt discouraged. I hadn't experienced nearly anything in life. But I loved to write. Well,that was thirty five years ago. And I still don't know enough of any one thing to publish anything. But I do remember Daddy. I was daddy's girl and he made my heart melt. My memory goes back to about three and four and the birthdays and christmases. The lakes and him teaching me to swim. My commuion at six.... Then something went wrong. Mom and Dad were fighting a lot. I knew if he didn't listen to her he'd be the one leaving. My heart was breaking. I woke up one morning and he was gone. We were on the east coast so he headed out to California. That was it-no further contact. I ran out into my back yard sobbing against a fence-and the little girl who lived next door came over and asked me what I was crying about. My Daddy's gone, My daddy's gone. I don't know why your crying she said. My father left with him. But I heard our mothers talking and they wern't our real fathers anyway. I ran in the house to ask my mom. No, she said, he was not your genetic father. Then who was I asked. He was a German who got deported back to Germany and didn't send for us. It took me all this time to figure out that I knew life and pain and things I just couldn't put words to yet. My teacher was wrong. Take it from a Daddy's girl.
