L'Herbier VI by Basilius Besler
You may know that the peony is Jeannin's, the hollyhock belongs to Quost, but the sunflower is mine in a way."
Vincent van Gogh (to Theo)
22 or 23 January 1889
The Chinese hail the sunflower as a symbol of longevity.
The Incas had an entire religion devoted to the sunflower. They worshipped the stately flower as a sacred image of their sun god. Incan priestesses wore gold sunflower emblems on their clothing. Incan temples were embellished with sunflower imagery hammered in gold.

Click HERE to read about the Woodborough Sunflower,
the amazing and stunningly beautiful "Sunflower" that appeared in Alton Priors between Woodborough Hill and Picked Hill, on August 13th.
Based on ground observation it was assumed to be a Moiré construction with dozens of thin rings, but it isn't. It's a pattern made from Phi spirals, like the arrangement of seeds in a sunflower.
At The Belle Époque, I play Ellen Rhodes Wingham.
