Inde (Apache)

The table border pattern is based on a traditional Apache basket design. The headgear below is a war chieftan's cap. Apaches wisely appreciated the cleanliness that came from bathing, as seen in the photo of this youth.
Apache means "enemy" in Zuni, and these people did have a name for themselves: N'de, Inde or Tinde -- which stands for "the people", as so many self-identifying names do.
