Palm trees sway gently in the cooling breeze and the sand shifts beneath my feet and sifts through my toes, soft and warm, on this bright, sunny day. I stand at the water's edge and let it wash across my feet, cool and refreshing, then watch in contented silence as the trader's boat slowly approaches the nearby harbour. I've taken a short break from the hustle and bustle of my import/export business and the walk along the beach gives me a brief respite from its frantic activity.

The traders are lured here by the venerable island's rich resources. Ruby and sapphire and other precious stones, the cinnamon and spices, tea, and the black timber called ebony which is found here, all cast their spell.

Our ancient ways aren't forgotten however as the sacred buddhist shrines and offerings attest, as do the splendid stone palaces of ancient Kings which stand solid and strong against the passing of time.

With one last look out across the clear, ultramarine sea sparkling gaily in the afternoon sun, I turn and make my way back to the humble abode I call home.

Welcome honoured guest and Thank You for visiting me here on our resplendent isle.

o Homesite backgrounds, divider bar, decorative motif, and Lanka plaque made by myself. The avatar and general images have been altered by me from original image sources and from images with permissions at the Wikipedia website. The beach scene used in the introduction above was altered by me from an image available on the intenet of an original painting by Douglas Raffel.
o Ashoka family plaque made by Hapshetsut Nebet.
o Some of the art which appears on my homesite pages is part of a brilliant collection of work by Sri Lankan artists viewable online at the Art Sri Lanka Foundation website. If you're an art lover and/or interested in Sri Lanka's culture stop by and check it out. You can also find out more about the collection in my homesite library.
