Welcome to my Oikos, traveller. I am Hermaphroditos, one of the Erotes, the host of my mother, Aphrodite. My father is Hermes, hence my name. Since my parents are both deities of sexuality, some speculate that my rare physical appearance has to be attributed to this. I used to be depicted as a winged youth with male and female attributes: usually female thighs, breasts, and style of hair, and male genitalia.

Even though the Erotes have usually been presented as more or less effeminate youths before mortals felt the need to belittle us into fat, winged babies, I am the only one of the host whose body is actually male as well as female. This has turned me intro the Patron of those who are born with a body like mine, and also of effeminate youths and men.

In the Courtyard you will find a poem by Algernon Charles Swinburne, composed at the Louvre, inspired by my statue. In the Library I will tell you why I tend to avoid water these days, and in the Study you will find the calling cards of my divine brethren, the Erotes. I am very pleased that the whole lot of them has taken up residence at AW by now.

As Anteros has already pointed out, don't just take us for giddy or melancholic love gods - as you already know, my father is Hermes, and he is also the Patron God of crooks and thieves. *winks* Some more wine?
