TOMB OF AHA

I'd say "welcome" but not all are welcome here. He who takes anything from this tomb will bring forth all curses known to man.

However you may enter just as long as you leave the way you came. My first and last warning...

This tomb is dedicated to my family. Femi, my wife and my son Kontar and daughter, Anippe. My name is Ngesi. I am a Heri-tep a'a. I say "am" because I intend to remain on this earth to torment the people that did this to my family.

This is our story:

My family were one of the noble families of Waset. I had two brothers. One who went on to become a Physician and the other, Captain of the Guard. Healing or warfare did not interest me. I knew I had a head for leadership. I managed to work my way up to be a Heri-tep a'a of one of the smaller districts of Waset. From there, a few more districts were added to my work. My work grew so much that I had to appoint lower officials who would report to me.

Pharaoh at the time, took notice of me. Saw the potential that I had and then became Heri-tep a'a for the whole of Waset. Pharaoh also honoured me by giving one of his distant cousins to be my wife.

Femi was a girl from a large family with 8 brothers. Her mother was considered to be "successful" in society because she bore so many children. Yes, Femi was a good choice for a wife, for it was hoped that Femi too would bear as many sons and daughters.

From when I first saw her, I was enraptured by her. A dainty thing, she made me feel worthy and clumsy all at the same time.

When we were "married", surprisingly both of us were happy. From all the arranged marriages that I had seen, most weren't happy at all. Some of our friends had to get divorces because they either had no children or they committed adultery.

A sizable dowry including land where we could build a house was pledged by Femi's parents. My parents also pledged furniture, animals and servants.

About a year after we were married, Anippe came along. An adorable child she was too. Full of energy, running in and out of the house and playing with the other children. A free spirit some would say... So much like her mother.

A son followed. We named him Kontar. He was a handful! Getting into everything. Had a few minor accidents along the way with the contents of my inkpots finding their way onto the floor and the walls, broken quills and torn up papyri as well.

Both children were just a joy to be around. Constantly laughing and playing.

But I will never forget what happened that day and what came after...
