Decennalia (or decennia, from Latin decennium - "tenth anniversary"; decem, "ten" + annus, "year") were Ancient Roman festivals celebrated with games every ten years by the Roman emperors.

    Image created by Kallistos Alexandros

This festival owed its origin to the fact that in 27 BC, Augustus refused the supreme power offered to him for life. Instead, he would only consent to accepting power for ten years; during the festival, he would surrender up all of his authority to the hands of the people, who, filled with joy, and charmed with the goodness of Augustus, immediately delivered it back to him again.

The memory was preserved to the last ages of the empire by Decennalia, which was solemnised by subsequent emperors every tenth year of their reign, although they had received the imperium for life, and not for the limited period of ten years.

Here we celebrate the tenth year of Ancient Worlds / Ancient Sites and the rule of Jot Ariston!

    I quote –

We, the Senate and the Roman People of Ancient Worlds, united, and of our own Free Will, and most assuredly without consideration for the armed Legionaries standing beside us and otherwise located around our City, do hereby Declare:

That our Beloved Tyrant and Benevolent Emperor, Jot Ariston, has reached the tenth year of his Reign, and upon this Anniversary is to surrender Power back into the Hands of the Senate and the People, although he has admittedly neglected to do this, no doubt out of pure absent-mindedness.

Accordingly, we, filled with Joy and Charmed with the Goodness of our Augustus, do hereby humbly beseech him to Agree, or at the very least Aggree, to accept back from our Hands into his the Supreme Power of Editing and HTML over all Ancient Worlds, and we do offer up many Vows for the Success and Perpetuity of his Reign.

Let there be Games and Celebrations in his Honor!

Done this day by the Scribes of Rome.
