Across the Green from the gates of the Niafer Keep stands The Great Hall. You see as you approach, it is a gradiose structure. A steep-pitched roof of finest thatch seems to reach halfway to the sky. There are three large doorways, closed with a curtain of tanned deerskin. The doorposts are embellished with strange designs, inlaid with gold, silver and bronze. The walls are sturdy and draft free. The heavy posts are chinked with moss and mud.

Inside is dark and smokey. Age-blackened timbers and beams fade off into the overhead gloom. The room is dominated by two immense heating hearths. The smoke curls up into the darkness and eventually seeps out through the thatch. Between them is a small stage for musicians or bards to perform. A kitchen hearth, serving tables and a stack of ale-kegs cover the far side of the room. Other tables are frequently moved to the sides for dancing or wrestling contests. Most of the Keep, their guests and the occaisional traveler take their meals in the Great Hall. Also, more often than not, Mother Skene can be found curled into a cosy corner, not far from the fire.
