  • 1- He was given a disreputable cognomen after an ineptly handled sea battle where the crew abandoned ship and he was captured.
  • 2- In the shadow of a volcano, he attacked a rebel without waiting for his foraging troops and was forced to retreat, only to reverse the situation when his troops returned.
  • 3- Approximately 310 x 115 with purple marble columns.
  • 4- He accused slaves of conspiring with a rebel, then asked their owners for bribes to clear the charges.
  • 5- Seven campaigns in six years, but jealousy from above cut his career short.
  • 6- All save the Capitoline, and for that, a sizeable amount of gold – denied!
  • 7- His fortress has only four rooms that are extant: an entrance, gatehouse, dungeon, and sleeping quarters, and he believed himself to be the god Pluto.
  • 8- He divvied-up six birds for his men providing only water and a bit of bread, but to a man who studied plants, he gave some wine also.

  • 11- He introduced the concept of eating olives stuffed with various meats for use by soldiers as a quick snack when fighting far from Rome.
  • 12- He stated in a private letter that the Senate could be improved by increasing its numbers and be allowed to vote by ballot.
  • 13- It was a delight at his table, mixing eggs, olive oil, pepper, lemon juice, a spicy brown sauce and cheese, served in the presence of cut leaves.
  • 14- He had the commander’s wife smuggled in dressed as a soldier, then proceeded to the general’s tent to have sex with her.
