Anticipation builds the teams of skilled charioteers and daring heroes make their way to Davaar Peak. Before the judges give the starting signal, runners are sent to each team with a map on a square of cow hide and the following verbal directions:
1) The starting line is at the peak of the Davaar Isle at the mouth of Loch Cean Tir. Race down the steep hill. For a real challenge, you can try performing heroic feats while your chariot wildly careens down the steep Southwest slope (elevation 300 ft.). The Northeast slope is gentler and much safer, but may cost you valuable time.
2) You must try to beat the tide as you race across the Doirlinn. There's a sandy stretch to the left and a rocky area to the right. The sand is more treacherous than it looks, while the rocky area has hidden stumbling rocks. The choice is yours to make.
3) Once you've crossed the Doirlinn, go Westward along the South shore of the loch. The challenge here is trying to stay between forest and the shore. The south shore looks pleasant enough, but you never know who or what may be lurking in the woods.
4) Now go North and Northwest along the road and try to avoid the stinky, gooey mud. Beware! Those tidal flats are looking more inviting by the minute.
5) Then cross the river ford and turn East. The Stronghold is close, but your horses are wheezing so hard, they cannot possibly go a step further without a rest. You stop at the Cean Tir Standing Stone to allow them to graze and notice that the symbols carved near the base form a Pictogram
.6. Once you have deciphered the symbols, you continue eastward along the shore. You ford the stream, head upstream and up the steep hill to the Stronghold. There are cliffs to the right where vicious sea birds build their nests. If you disturb them they will become very nasty. When you arrive at the gates, you approach the finish line in the manner the Pictogram instructed.
Each of the above items will require a separate roleplay post. The first three teams through the gate following the instructions of the Pictogram
win the race!Judging will be based on good sportsmanship, creativity, humour, writing and all those good qualities.
Remember to follow the rules on the Sign-up page, the site's Code of Conduct and Cornellia's Roleplay Etiquette.
Now let the fun begin!
