Is it just me, or is Gladiator the most historicaly inaccurate movie to ever win an Academy Award? Is it Bravehart, or perhaps something else?
If it were not for the blood and gore, I would not have been able to stomach Gladiator. Most of us here could spot the historical problems right away. If R.C. had not been able to produce snot on demand, he would not have been considered an actor, much less won an Oscar.
Bravehart's historical problems were much harder for most people to spot. The battles Wallace fought (if not the details) and the way he died were correct. Even the fact that Robert the Bruce and his father had leprosy (or syphilis depending on the historian) was correct. Bravehart did more good than harm in my opinion.
Personally, I still think the Gladiator wins the contest of worst historical movie to win the Oscar. I would, however welcome any debate even (I'll regret this) from Strabo.
