The history of Roma begins with a legend ... Romulus and Remus, the twin Sons of the god Mars ... left Alba Longa, the City of their birth, and travelled ten miles north to build their own City, which became Roma. They could have lived their lives in ease at Alba Longa, but a spirit of adventure and a desire to mold their own destinies drove them to the site with seven hills. During the Flavian Dynasty, it was dotted here and there with lavish vacation villas for the rich and famous. It included Domitian's magnificent villa overlooking Lake Albano. The Pope's summer residence is built over that site today.
