For discussion of the deteriorating struggle between the Senate and Caesar that led to the Civil War and Caesar's ultimate assumption of absolute power in Rome.
"Crossing the Rubicon" is known throughout the western world as taking the ultimate step beyond which there is no return. Few dramas in history can match Rome's descent into a war that destroyed the Republic and forever marked Caesar, rightly or wrongly, as its nemesis. What causes, and effects, flowed from this inevitable conflict?
