We gain our information about the Shang dynasty from the bronze artifacts and oracle bones and turtle shells on which were inscribed the first recorded Chinese characters.
Chinese historical records claim 18 rulers for the Shang dynasty proper, with an additional 12 rulers sometimes claimed under the Yin dynasty
