Writing Contest & Treasure Hunt

So you have accepted the mission! Bao Bei will be delighted to hear you have decided to help him out of his "rather tight spot." Before you get started, there are a few things you should know about pandas in general, and Bao Bei in particular.

Bao Bei means "treasured object," and he has lost several in his travels through the Orient. His name also means "baby" and he still is to us, so you can understand our concern. It can also mean "odd character," an apt description of our mascot. Just wait until you see some of the "treasures" he has lost!

Also, Pandas are extremely shy creatures and Bao Bei is no exception. He's been gone for a year now and rumours abound. No one really knows why he went missing, or what he's been up to this past year, but many strange tales are whispered behind silk sleeves. Is he searching for bamboo shoots? Pandas do eat a lot of bamboo: 30-40 pounds a day! Was he kidnapped? Is he on the run? If so, from who...or what? Or does he simply love to travel?

Good questions! The possibilities are endless. You tell us. Carefully read the rules below and let us know on this thread if you have any questions or need a hint beyond the clues we give you.

Your mission

1. Write a short story, anywhere from 500 to 1500 words, about where the Orient's favourite mascot has been for the past year.

2. Help him find the 15 objects he lost along the way.

3. When you are finished writing and editing your story, please post it on this thread.

4. Send the list of objects you find, the URLs of where they are hidden, and the name of your persona to: orient.events@gmail.com

5. DO NOT post your treasure hunt answers anywhere on site!

The contest starts on February 18 and runs for the duration of the Lunar Festival. In other words, you have 7 days to provide a reason for Bao Bei's absence and find the 15 items he has scattered about the Orient.

1st Prize: Plaque and 10,000 strti
2nd Prize: Plaque and 5,000 strti
3rd Prize: Plaque and 2,500 strti

All participants will receive a limited edition Bao Bei t-shirt.
