Welcome to our Persian Concert Series

The music of Persia, and the neighboring Near and Middle Eastern countries, is both diversified and similar. Those of us in the West often think of this music as strident and tinny, lacking the complex rhythms and round tones we associate with our own musical cultures.

We sincerely hope after listening to our concerts that you will come to appreciate Persian sound, and the skill that it takes to perform on these instruments whose origins date back to the earliest of eastern civilizations.

To start off, we recommend going through our tutorial on The Music of Persia which explains its history, composition, and instruments. Embedded sound files make it possible for you to listen to the sound each instrument makes, as well as learn a bit about the music theory.

In order to hear the sound samples, you must have the appropriate media players installed on your PC. While we have a few midis, most of the sound files for the concerts are .ram, .mp3, or .wav files.

For your convenience we've added links for two media players that will cover all of the formats used here.
