Offerings for the Beautiful Feast Of the Valley (ie., what would granny want?)

During the Beautiful Feast of the Valley, Amun is carried across the river in grand procession in order to commune with the ka's of the dead pharoahs.

People often followed the procession across the river to do the same with their own dead ancesestors. It was thought that the living would provide food and sustainance for their relative by offering these items at the shrines of the dead. Tombs of more wealthy people had shrines attached. Here food and drink were set out, people prepared themselves for meeting with their deceased ancestor during an all night vigil. A boisterous feasting began, much like a family reunion, including also the deceased family members. Wine, beer, music, drumming, dancing brought the participants to a level of ecstatic awareness and summoned the spirits ka´s of the ancestors.

So, what would granny want? In Asia, they have a similar celebration where they burn effigies of real life items, such as DVD players, computers, clothing, car and Hell Notes to send into the Afterworld so their ancestors are well taken care of. Would the Egyptians do the same? Would they bring mummified sacrifices of Fluffy the cat so Gran would have a playmate? Does she really need the newest sandals from Prada-hotep? Does she want her favorite meal - in my case, that would be biscuits and gravy....can't take the Okie outta Gran, even if she is Egyptian....
