The Beltane Fires & Opening Ceremony
|

Beltane/Beltaine/Cetsamsin has been celebrated for thousands of years to bless the lands the herds and the wombs of all in the community. Join us for a focal point in Beltane festivals, purification by passing twixt the Beltaine Fires. Cattle and loved-ones were passed between twin fires to purify them. Beltane is celebrated by the diaspora of the Celts, worldwide. Join us for the opening ceremonies of what is going to be a magical and wonderous event for us all! The group Sean-nos is sponsoring the Fire ceremony this year.
Beltane is one of the Great Fire Festivals which mark the passing of seasons. Beltaine and Oiche Sahmna (Samhain) mark the transitions into the "light" and "dark" halves of the year. The 4 Great Fire Festivals tend to be placed about 35-40 days past each Solstice and Equinox. That would be the approximate time it took back then to gather the masses for a big party! Woo hoo! The one aspect of the fires -lit in pairs- was to pass cattle and loved ones between them for a blessings and ritual "cleansing" as preparation -and in ancticipation of- the fertile growing season of the yearly cycle. We Draoithe (Druids) hold this as one of the two most sacred days of the year. Let us gather 'round the Beltaine fires, the blessings of all wombs, of all fields, of all trees that can bear fruit begins tonight! Here's a little souvenire for those of you who join us. Thanks for celebrating this auspicious day with us here in Celtia! !
