n any other year, the raiding season ends with the celebration of Samhain. Warriors and outlaws return to home and hearth to spend the dark days of winter in feasting, boasting, and preparation for the next year. From Samhain to Beltaine is supposed to be a time of rest and recuperation.
Not so for the Niafer of Inver Colpa. This past summer has seen the death of Rian Flidais and the distraught departure of War Chief Fenian. Though the harvest was bountiful, much of it still lies in the fields. The depredations of the Outlaws of Magh Croimor have decimated the clan and have the farmers huddled in fear. With little to eat and the wolves at the door, this promises to be a WINTER OF WOES.
The scenario is early first-millenium Ireland. The stage has been set from the ending of last year's story...
At the end of the raiding season, in the bustle of the Samhain celebrations, the Outlaws of Magh Croimor abducted Creidne, the old woman of the Sea Hag in the village of Inver Colpa. Enna, ad hoc leader of the Niafer, went off searching with most of the warriors. In his absence, the Outlaws penetrated the defenses of the Niafer keep. Not only did they rescue Baine from enjoying the Niafer hospitality, but they also absconded with Rian Flidais’ infant son, his nurse, and the young son of the bard, MacMorna.
Our story opens with the bard returning from the Samhain festivities at Dun Kaimes. Nevvyn has been awakened by Igraine, and has been apprised of the bad news. Will these three be able to muster sufficient forces to confront the outlaws?
Meanwhile, said outlaws have headed for parts unknown. There are many questions facing them. Where to go and what to do with their captives, are foremost on their minds. Come join us to help move the story along.
