According to many tales in Mesopotamia and Persia, the gods put the universe in order, then came to earth. When they arrived there was much work to be done. Waterways were cleared and canals were built; mines were dug and precious metals were mined. There was much that needed doing, but then it was decided they needed a worker - how could one expect gods to toil? So, mankind was made in order to do the gods' bidding. And from there, the tales of gods and man become more numerous and intriguing... ...

    The Sumerian tradition is not quite as in depth as others that came after them. But, there is a basis here for those other ancient religions. Under this topic we shall look at the Mesopotamian beliefs of what happened with the universe, earth and even gods - before man.
