Welcome to the Athenian Treasury at the Temple of Apollo! We are here today to give thanks to Apollo and the Oracle for their assistance in our victory at the Battle of Marathon! Bring what votive offerings you may have (which may include paeans to Apollo...feel free to write them on the Treasury walls!) to help us dedicate the new building. There is also plenty of food and wine to go around. Please join in the celebration! (The Athenian Treasury was a small Doric temple built in approximately 500 B.C. to display the spoils from the Athenian victory at the Battle of Marathon and gifts given to Apollo in appreciation of the Oracle's assistance. The Battle of Marathon was the first Greek victory over the Persians in what was to become the Persian Wars.)
