duff·er [ dúffər ] (plural duff·ers)
1. unintelligent person: somebody regarded as a slow learner or not competent at something ( informal dated insult )
2. something worthless: something worthless or useless ( dated informal )
3. regional peddler: a peddler of goods, especially cheap or worthless merchandise ( archaic )
4. In golf: A bad golfer. Duffer is a derogatory term applied to poor players in general. Somewhat synonymous with "hacker" in that they both apply to poor players.
