I bring the ashes from a brazier in my domus on the Esquiline, in Rome. Although we in Rome had no notion that the "new world" existed - conventional wisdom said that all Europe and Asia was one circular land-mass, surrounded by the infinite ocean flowing all around it! - let this ash from the old world add something to the Sacred Mound.
