I ended up staying awake much of last night cooking (and snapping photos, even when the stages looked... unusual...). Coincidence or not, the cat woke me up around 8 a.m. wailing frantically, and I'm still a bit sleep deprived.

Tomorrow I'll type up my adventures in the kitchen. Maybe by then I'll have gotten this fennel splinter out of my thumb....
