The subject of this verse is the story of the goose that laid the golden eggs.
The Goose and the Golden Eggs
There once was a goose that laid eggs of pure gold;
The farmer who owned it grew greedy and bold.
Deciding one day not to wait any more,
He foolishly killed it, but naught lay in store.
So now he is missing both gold and the goose...
The moral is obvious; don't be obtuse.
