This is a story about a poor wood cutter's daughter. She did not mind being a poor girl, but she was ugly. The mothers of sons turned away from her and did not want her for their boys. This sent her into a deep depression. The women told her, "we don't want you. No one wants you". Lost and alone she fell from the top of a hill into a cavity of the mountain. She had fallen into this travertine pool that was full of thermal water and mud. She lay unconcious in the thermal waters for a long time. Durring that time the wonder working power of the springs of Daphne made her very beautiful. The son of the Govenor saw only a beautiful girl lying hurt in the mud water. He decided to carry her to his house on horse back. He fell in love with this girl and they were married and lived happily ever after. From this time on women have come to the hot springs to be transformed into irisistable beauty. Gods who touch all earth with beauty, make me lovely too! With thy spirit recreate me, make my heart anew.
