The happy go lucky antics of the bull test everything that I know about cattle herding, which is next to nothing. Soon I realize that chasing after him only makes him more jolly and sly. He has rid himself of the rope and the halter. I retrieved them from where they fell, of course. What will I do when (and if!) I can catch up with him?

I have never felt more foolish in my whole life. Around and around the meadow we go. The horse seems to enjoy this game and decides to play his own way. When I pull the rein this way, he balks. When I try to turn that way, he bucks and jerks.

All of a sudden the bull charges for the hill in the center of the field. I have no choice but to follow at a flat out gallop. The horse decides for me. I am considering jumping off and walking away from both of these crazed animals, leaving them to their own beastly cavortings when the bull shies to one side and stops!

There's a man walking slowly towards the halted bull. The horse is confused and slows down to a trot. I take the chance and slide off, taking the rope and halter with me.

"Is this your bull?" he asks. I am amazed to see that he has one hand on each of Dessel's horns. If bulls could smile, Dessel would be grinning.
