A number of varying designs for siege artillery have been constructed since very early times. Many were successfully used in laying waste to opposing forces and in city sieges. They were often massive and strongly built and it took a number of men and animals to move them into position on the battlefield. They were something to be feared and could bring down walls and cause heavy losses to whoever they were unleashed upon.
