I'll just remark that you may want to change the wording of your article for the sake of accuracy, for where you write crown you naturally mean diadem.
A diadem, a simple white band worn around the head and knotted at the back, was the symbol of royalty in ancient times.
A crown or wreath (corona) was
a. a Roman military decoration, of which Caesar had several (the first was the corona civica awarded to him at Mitylene for saving the life of a comrade in battle);
b. a wreath of flowers used commonly at parties and festivals
Nevertheless, the medieval and modern royal crowns do probably have their origin in the Roman military crowns
