Is it just me, or is Gladiator the most historicaly inaccurate movie to ever win an Academy Award? Is it Bravehart, or perhaps something else? ...

And what is wrong with Puss in boots Victoria? I happen to like Puss in boots. Seriously though, I have to respectfully disagree with all the posters that do not believe that movies do not serve a didactic function because, like it or not, they do.

Nothing ever happens in a vacuum, and sometimes actions have very long lasting consequences. Let me give you a couple of examples using one of the movies that is being discussed in this thread, I am talking about “Braveheart”. Prior to Mel Gibson making that film, Scotland was firmly joined at the hip of England, and looked likely to remain that way, until Mel Gibson made “Braveheart”. Just follow this link to read more: http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/europe/9903/14/britain.scotland/

The other possible social disaster that can possibly affect a lot of us are the proposed Hannibal Barca movies. Please allow me to lay the ground work on that one; back in 1998 as I recall, the folks at Anhueser Busch blatantly kissed the ass of African-American community by commissioning a series of paintings called “Great Kings and Queens of Africa. Two of these painting were particularly pernicious, one depicted Cleopatra as a black woman (keep in mind that Cleopatra was Ptolemy, and therefore Greek), and the other depicted Hannibal as a black warrior king.

As all you of no doubt know, Hannibal was not a king, and he was a Carthaginian aristocrat, in other words he was a Phoenician, meaning he was a Semite, and as we all know Semites are not black.

By now I am sure that you wondering what does any of this have to do with these possible movies? I am glad you asked. The one movie would star Vin Diesel; the other one would star Denzel Washington. It’s the one with Denzel Washington that really raises the hair on the nape of my neck, and it has nothing to do with Mr. Washington’s acting ability; of the two, he is certainly the better actor.

What I have already seen on the blogs are idiots that are already portraying the Punic Wars as a struggle between the races, and of course, one in which the evil white men (Romans) stomp and abuse in the most foul manner an enlightened and wonderful black African civilization. Please don’t take my word for it, go ahead and Google it for yourself.

So please, don’t believe for a second that films do not serve as a means of history education because they do, and yes, the film makers should strive to be as accurate as possible, because when you are dealing with an historical subject, there are consequences, and they may not be pleasant!
