My mother is Jewish, as is her entire side of my family. In the 70's she converted to Christianity, which as you can imagine made my Jewish grandmother and great grandmother OH SO HAPPY.
LOL
Nothing like Jewish guilt. Anyway. My father had no part in my spiritual upbringing and very little in regular upbringing for that matter. My mother [who is a member of this very group btw, Shalom Nebuchadnazzer] didnt change who she was as a person or how she raised us from the way she was raised, she only changed what church she went to and her personal beliefs.
Because of this, I was raised in a mostly Jewish manner including some but not all kosher concepts. Religious holidays were a bit hazy for us. We knew when they were and sometimes celebrated them with members of that side of the family, but rarely WHY they were or what they really signified.
I have chosen (as a child and continue to) not to follow the Christain faith, but neither am I really Jewish. This is a personal subject and the only reason I bring it up is to clarify my ignorance of either religion. I have ample opportunity to explore my Christain history interests, but not so my much stronger interest in Judaism. This is why I joined this group in 2003. In the hopes of remedying my lack of knowledge of my maternal family's faith.
