I completely agree with you, Aevalle and Vortigern. *s* What also fascinates me is the locigal progression of the "fool's journey". Card no. 13 shows Death, the point when a natural cycle is completed. We have the choice to acknowledge and embrace this natural ending of a cycle or take a little detour as card no. 15 shows, the Devil, a symbol of staying addicted/attached to already dead issues/circumstances.

At least in the Rider-Waite tarot the couple standing in front of the devil has chosen its slavery. The chains are loose and can be slipped off at any time. Another point to make a choice. The next step is the Tower, card no. 16. The energy that has been kept from flowing freely now bursts free with all its power. Lightning strikes, and all that we've clung to, all dead (ideas, emotions, convictions et cetera) we've clung to now lies scattered. It has been wrenched from our hands, and the road is now free again to continue the "fool's journey".
