Kaia watched as the battle ran its last moments and the remaining raiders were slaughtered. Yngvildr had been there, beside her, for a moment before running into the fray.
After dispatching two more stray attackers, Kaia thought she heard something coming from inside the Boar. Strange, she thought, and-- as no one else was coming-- she headed inside to check it out. All the others were busy at their tasks outside, the main room looked like a mass grave. And so it is, Kaia chuckled. Then where did that sound come from? she wondered. There it was again-- a faint voice, a moaning.
She searched around until she was sure it came from somewhere else in the building, other than the kitchen and the main room. She followed the sound further back until she discovered a small room where a man lay on the bed, blood soaking the hasty, but expert bandanges on his body. There was a warm fire but not even that could account for his flushed face.
"Help me," the man said through his tightly clenched teeth.
"Shhhh," Kaia answered, quickly checking his wounds after setting down her sword and sheathing the dagger. He must have shifted in his sleep and caused them to open afresh. I'd bet anything that really hurts, she thought as she touched his forehead in an effort to comfort him. "I'll be right back-- don't go anywhere," she added as she left the room to find some more bandages.
Nearing the main room once more, there was a new noise-- not more raiders? If so, how had they gotten out of the massacre outside? Quietly drawing the dagger she had just put away, Kaia creeped up to a good vantage point, ready to take one with her on the way to Valhalla (at least that was where she hoped she would go!). Luckily, a rare thought of caution caused her to look before leaping and that look surely saved her from a very stupid mistake. It was not a group of Vandals, it was the victorious party! Smiling, Kaia sheathed her dagger again and went to meet the bloody group of warriors. Spotting some familiar faces as she stepped into the room, she asked, "Well met! Do you have any bandages handy?"
