I've started researching this subjectc for a possible new web site, and I realize that, although the 1st century BC gets all the razzle-dazzle (Caesar, Pompey, Sulla, etc.), what REALLY happened that changed everything happened from the Punic Wars down to Marius, in the 2nd century AD.

I'd love to see some discussion of this period!
