Ah now, if you are worried about the death of the old languages, then you should visit Wales. Not only is this a bi-lingual country, but the use of Welsh is increasing in leaps and bounds! Every road sign, street sign, shop sign, leaflet and form is in two languages. While the number of English-medium school is decreasing, more Welsh-medium schools are being built due to the sheer number of parents who want their children to be taught in Welsh. Even though they may be non-speakers or even English. (I'm English myself, by the way, and have lived in Wales since 1993.) I have learned a little Welsh, but gave it up when I hit the mutations. My daughter and I are planning to go back to Welsh lessons at evening classes as we'll have each other to practice on. It's easier as we live in a Welsh-speaking town, Aberystywth, which is the centre of the language. So, Welsh is still alive, despite not having changed much over centuries. It's funny to think that my ancient ancestors could come back today and still understand us!
