Homer was for the ancient Greeks what the scriptures were for the Hebrews. The city states were bound together by their love and reverence for Homer. His epics inspired the imaginations of poets, dramatists, historians, philosophers, sculptors, politicians, and ordinary Greeks for generations. His plots, themes, and dialogue profoundly influenced Greek drama. "crumbs from the table of Homer."_Aeschylus Homer is the " Founder of Western Literature" because of his many followers. Emerson wrote that every novel was a debtor to Homer. The universals of the human condition remain the same. Only the particulars change.
