I just finished The Yiddish Policemans Union by Michael Chabon and am currently reading The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana by Umberto Eco.
The Yiddish Policemans Union was a really interesting read. Pretty good as well. The end of it struck me as being a bit out of the blue, although it fits once you take the time to think about it. On its face it is a murder mystery but there is sooooo much more involved. To try and describe it would be challenging and give away too much info about the ending.
The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana is a book that I am really enjoying. I found it on a table for $6 and picked it up as a bit of summer vacation reading. The idea is interesting, a man looses his personal history but can remember the books that he read, directions, and the like. He goes to try and rediscover who he is by reading the books of his youth. What is really cool is that the main character is a 60 year old man who grew up in Fascist Italy so there is some very interesting discussion about facism in Italy and World War II. Good stuff.
