Nikephoros was a lucky young woman. Unlike most slaves she was not torn from the security of her blood family. She was raised alongside the children of her master, and even though she may not have eaten at the same table as her betters, she was a dear friend to them. It was an uncommon relationship that not many shared. Of all the children in the house, she had grown closest to her master’s eldest son, Marius Septimus.
He was only two years her senior and when he married a rather dull daughter of an even more uncultured wine merchant with a hefty dowry, Marius insisted that Nikephoros be part of his household, even at the suspicion of his new bride.
Her features are not exotic. Her breeding suggested more Macedonian heritage than the dark haired Greek. Her hair was a fair shade of blonde and seemed at odds with her olive toned face, and was nearly the only thing exotic about her. While she wished for blue eyes, she instead had a dark brown eyes that only served to make her more ordinary-looking.
As an individual she is quiet and bashful, that probably has less to do with her heritiage and more to do with her position as a slave, yet she has a wilder side that is rarely put into view.
